No. Your identity is processed via an automated, certified third-party vendor. Once verified, the raw images are destroyed. Your final data packages are encrypted and passed straight through to your dashboard, never stored on a permanent database.
Building, sending, and tracking your request is free. The one cost is the identity check — £4, which is what our verification partner charges us plus a small amount to run it. It does real work: it filters out spam and bad-faith requests, so every organisation on the network can trust that a request arriving through Data Defenders comes from a genuine person. A free-for-all would flood organisations with junk and make it harder for real requests to be taken seriously. If the £4 is genuinely a problem for you, tell us and we'll cover it.
Honestly? Plenty of people should, and we'll help you — our free DIY toolkit gives you the wording and the steps with nothing held back. Three things are genuinely harder alone: you'll have to send your own ID documents to whoever you're requesting from, you'll be chasing them yourself, and if they miss the deadline or refuse, you're on your own at exactly the point it gets difficult. We verify you once so the organisation only receives confirmation rather than your documents, we track the deadline for you, and we have an escalation route if it goes wrong.
Our platform monitors the clock and flags the default clearly in your dashboard. From there you can escalate: complain to the ICO, or take up our Support Services, where pre-vetted data protection paralegals and specialist law firms step in to manage the dispute with your evidence file already prepared.
Not from the organisation you're requesting from — the law requires them to be able to identify you before they hand over your personal data, and any service claiming otherwise is misleading you. What we can do is minimise it: you don't need an account with us, your identity documents are destroyed once verified, the organisation receives confirmation that you've been checked rather than the documents themselves, and the reason you're making the request is never shared with them.
